Access to Mental Health Services for Adults in Medicaid

While Medicaid beneficiaries are entitled to receive necessary mental health treatment in the most integrated setting possible, many still have difficulty accessing services in the community.

In the first part of this session, staff present findings from two complementary analyses examining coverage of and access to mental health services for adults enrolled in Medicaid. During the second part of the session, three experts discuss the needs of adults with mental illness and different approaches states are taking to facilitate access to mental health services and improve quality of care. The panelists include:

  • Sandra Wilkniss, Director of Complex Care Policy and Senior Fellow, Families USA
  • Melisa Byrd, Senior Deputy Director, District of Columbia Department of Health Care Finance
  • Dorn Schuffman, Director, CCBHC Demonstration Project, Missouri Department of Mental Health
