Behavioral and Physical Health Integration in Medicaid

Medicaid is the single largest payer in the United States for behavioral health services, accounting for 26 percent of such expenditures in 2009. Because many people with serious behavioral health disorders have a substantial number of comorbid acute or chronic medical conditions, integrating behavioral health and physical health services is often suggested as an opportunity to provide cost-effective care that improves their health outcomes.

This slide set provides an overview of behavioral health integration, and presents a new catalog of behavioral and physical health integration initiatives prepared under contract for MACPAC.
