The Commission continued its discussion on improving access to care for Medicaid beneficiaries with behavioral health conditions. At prior Commission meetings, MACPAC has discussed the limited availability of behavioral health crisis services. These services are critical in deescalating a mental health crisis, diverting individuals from the criminal justice system, and fostering more appropriate use of community-based services.
This presentation contains three policy options focused on how state Medicaid programs can help broader staff efforts to design and implement the three components of a crisis continuum: (1) a crisis hotline; (2) mobile crisis services; and (3) crisis stabilization centers.
Note: These slides have been updated since the Commission’s March 2020 meeting to reflect updated MACPAC analysis on racial and ethnic disparities among adults with mental illness.
