Chapter 2 of MACPAC’s March 2012 report reviews access to care for children in Medicaid and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), comparing survey data on access to care measures for children in Medicaid or CHIP to that of children who have employer-sponsored insurance or are uninsured. Results show that after controlling for income, health status, and other socioeconomic factors, children enrolled in Medicaid or CHIP were reported to have better access to care than children who were uninsured, and on most measures have comparable access to care to children with employer-sponsored insurance.
