There is no single source of data on the number of live births in the Medicaid program that has both complete counts of live births and complete, verified Medicaid eligibility information. This report describes the major types of data that have been used to compute the number and percentage of Medicaid live births, and compares counts and percentages using different datasets and methodologies. Differences among estimates reflect a variety of factors, including how Medicaid is identified and defined, the underlying data used, underreporting or non-reporting of data, and other differences in methodologies.
