Draft Chapter for the June Report: Medicaid Spending Trends

This presentation, on the first of three chapters related to Medicaid spending and financing planned for the June 2016 report to Congress, offers an overview of Medicaid spending trends, comparing different measures of Medicaid spending over time to other programs and benchmarks, including Medicaid as a share of national health expenditures, federal outlays, and state budgets. The presentation also discusses the components of Medicaid spending growth and projections for future spending. Some of the data, which were originally presented to the Commission at the May and September 2015 meetings, have been updated with 2016 analyses.
