Disproportionate share hospital profiles

MACPAC conducted in-depth interviews with executives at disproportionate share hospitals (DSH), to gain a more nuanced understanding of the types of hospitals receiving DSH payments, the relationship between DSH and other sources of funding, and the role of DSH hospitals in their markets and communities. This slide set presents key themes among the seven hospitals profiled:

  • Parkland Hospital, Dallas County Hospital District (Dallas, Texas)
  • MetroHealth Medical Center (Cleveland, Ohio)
  • Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (San Jose, California)
  • Vidant Medical Center (Greenville, North Carolina)
  • Henry Ford Hospital (Detroit, Michigan)
  • Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital (Caledonia County, Vermont)
  • Connecticut Children’s Medical Center (Hartford Connecticut)

Information collected from interviews with hospital executives and complemented with information from Medicare cost reports, Medicaid DSH audits, and other publicly available data.
