Highlights from the Duals Data Book

The Data Book: Beneficiaries Dually Eligible for Medicare and Medicaid compiles information on individuals who were dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid in calendar year (CY) 2021. This 2024 edition presents key statistics regarding the dually eligible community’s demographics and characteristics, eligibility pathways and enrollment, service utilization and spending, and use of long-term services and supports (LTSS). The data book also features trends in population composition, spending, and service use between CY 2018 and CY 2021. Among the key trends reported in CY 2021, the shift toward managed care enrollment for dually eligible beneficiaries and their elevated use of institutional LTSS offer insights into the care and coverage of this vulnerable population.

This data book was jointly produced by the Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission and the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission.
