On January 11, 2017, the chairmen of the Senate Committee on Finance, the full House Energy and Commerce Committee, and its subcommittees on Health and Oversight and Investigations asked MACPAC to prepare a report on each state Medicaid program’s coverage of optional eligibility groups and optional benefits, including data on enrollment and federal and state expenditures.
In its response, MACPAC noted that examining trends in Medicaid spending is a key component of MACPAC’s ongoing work, and understanding state policies on optional and mandatory benefits and eligibility groups is critical to understanding how state decisions affect total program spending. MACPAC’s response describes the Commission’s plan to complete the analytic work within the six-month time frame that the chairmen requested.
