In this letter to Administrator Seema Verma, MACPAC responds to the September 20, 2017 Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) request for information on a new direction for the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation.
MACPAC strongly supports the Innovation Center’s efforts to date to further innovation in partnership with states, providers, and other stakeholders. The Commission encourages the Innovation Center to continue to improve access, quality, and efficiency in Medicaid by:
- investing in payment and delivery system reform models that focus on Medicaid or include Medicaid as a significant partner;
- reaching out to Medicaid agencies and stakeholders as it develops new models and grant opportunities, even when these efforts primarily focus on Medicare; and
- supporting the Medicaid Innovation Accelerator Program, which leverages state administrative capacity by providing opportunities for states to learn from each other as well as by providing direct technical assistance.
