In addition to summarizing the Commission’s current and upcoming work on Medicaid and opioid use disorder and suggesting next steps for MACPAC inquiry, this presentation describes recent federal activities to address the epidemic. Initiatives highlighted include the President’s Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis; the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ five-point opioid strategy; technical assistance through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ Innovation Accelerator Program; and new federal funds authorized in the Comprehensive Addiction Recovery Act and the 21st Century Cures Act.
