The Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014 (P.L. 113-93) added a new annual report on Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) payments to MACPAC’s statutorily required duties. The study, which is due in February 2016, is meant to look at the impact of how states allot DSH dollars in relation to hospital characteristics such as the number of uninsured patients; uncompensated care costs; and provision of essential community services. In addition to presenting the work plan for the report the presentation provides an update of DSH allotment reductions and presents MACPAC’s preliminary findings from work completed to date.
