The Commission continued its discussion on how to improve access to care for children and adolescents with behavioral health conditions. At prior Commission meetings, MACPAC has discussed how many children and youth with behavioral health conditions enrolled in Medicaid and CHIP experience difficulty accessing treatment. These challenges can be particularly acute for children and adolescents with significant mental health conditions, who often lack access to home and community-based behavioral health services that can prevent the use of restrictive out-of-home placements.
As a next step in MACPAC’s work on access to behavioral health services for children and adolescents, this presentation included two policy options to help states design and implement home and community-based behavioral health services for those with significant mental health conditions.
