Potentially preventable events: Comparing Medicaid and privately insured populations

This slide set compares the rate of potentially preventable hospital admissions, readmissions, and emergency department visits in the Medicaid population with those in the privately insured population. Potentially preventable events may indicate either poor quality of care (by producing poor outcomes requiring additional care), or poor access to health care (if earlier appropriate care could have prevented the events altogether). This is one of the first studies of this type.
