Review of Draft March Report Chapter on Access Monitoring

This slide set reviews a draft chapter planned for the March 2017 report to Congress on monitoring access to care in Medicaid. Although the federal government does not require a single method for monitoring and evaluating access to services for Medicaid beneficiaries, this chapter reviews what is known about access to care in Medicaid and explains federal and state roles under fee for service and managed care. The draft chapter concludes with a discussion of key challenges to monitoring access, including data limitations, lack of benchmarks and precise measures, and federal and state staffing constraints.
