Value-Based Payment for Maternity Care in Medicaid

As part of MACPAC’s work to examine how Medicaid can be used to improve maternal health, this session examined the role of value-based payment, focusing on the findings from work done under contract with RTI International. The project examined the factors influencing model design and implementation, reviewed data on their effectiveness, and explored how state models are evolving. MACPAC looked at three types of models (episodes of care, pay-for-performance, pregnancy medical homes) across five states (Arkansas, Connecticut, Colorado, North Carolina, and Tennessee).
